Sandalwood, santalum album, is subtle, woody and warm. It has been traditionally used as an incense, for medicinal purposes and as a source of wood for carved objects. Called by some the Queen of Fragrances, sandalwood has long been the pride of India and treasured by people all over the world. It has grown in many other places in the world, most notably in Hawai'i, where it was known as 'iliahi. Other countries that have cultivated and developed varieties of sandalwood include Australia (santalum spicatum) and Indonesia .
